The PlayStation 5 is still battling with the Nintendo Switch to be the best-selling US console of the year, but stock limitations mean it may eventually lose out over the all-important holiday period. Sony is outselling the Nintendo hybrid when it comes to dollar sales (or revenue), but the House of Mario’s machine is ahead in units so far this year.
Nintendo Switch beat out the PS5 in both units and dollar sales in October 2021, with the new OLED model guiding it to victory. Industry spend on hardware was up an impressive 82 per cent across the board, though, tallying $472 million. Software sales also increased 11 per cent year-over-year, with Far Cry 6 and Back 4 Blood topping the charts.
