Path Of Exile 2: How To Find And Use Orbs Of Chance

There are several orbs you can stumble across and add to your inventory in Path of Exile 2, but few are as enticing as the Orb of Chance. This rare loot drop gives you the ability to turn a normal item into a shiny, new unique. Uniques are what all players work toward in Path of Exile 2, so Orbs of Chance are seen as some of the best drops in the entire game.

However, there are layers to how the Orb of Chance works, and it's one of the more difficult items to acquire. In the guide below, we'll go over everything you need to know about the Orb of Chance and where to start farming them.

How Orbs of Chance work

For starters, let's go over the basics with the Orb of Chance. It's a rare loot drop that you can acquire in a variety of ways and has the description: "Unpredictably either upgrades a normal to Unique rarity or destroys it." Normal items have white rarity and they are the most common items you'll find as loot or in vendor's shops. However, if you have an Orb of Chance, you can use it on a normal item to possibly turn it into a unique. This upgrades the item's stats and equips with it relevant affixes.

The trade-off for using an Orb of Chance is there's a 50/50 shot of the item turning into a unique or being destroyed altogether. While the item being destroyed isn't so bad, as it's just a normal item, you also lose your Orb of Chance in the process. This can be a real blow, especially if you spent hours grinding for a single orb.

To better increase your odds at finding and acquiring Orbs of Chance, read below for all the ways to get them in Path of Exile 2.

Kill enemies and loot chests for Orbs of Chance and Shards

Naturally, our first suggestion is the most obvious way to acquire an Orb of Chance. As they are in the drop table, Orbs of Chance can and will drop from enemies after you kill them. You can also open chests for a small chance to get the orb. Bosses, of course, have the highest chance to drop Orbs of Chance but rare enemies are also a good source for them.

In addition to seeing Orbs of Chance drop as loot, you could also find a Chance Shard. This shard can be added to your inventory and when stacked with 10 total shards, you create a single Orb of Chance. Chance Shards are almost as difficult to find as Orbs of Chance, but they are a little more common, especially on Cruel difficulty and in the endgame.

If you're still on Normal difficulty in Path of Exile 2, you'll likely never see a Chance Shard or a full orb as a drop. It's only when you get to Cruel difficulty that the shards and orb have a stronger chance to appear as loot.

Disenchant Uniques for Chance Shards

Speaking of Chance Shards, the easiest way to acquire them is by disenchanting unique items in Path of Exile 2. When you disenchant a unique, you are guaranteed to acquire a single Chance Shard in return.

Of course, unique items themselves are even more difficult to find than Orbs of Chance. Also, if you had uniques to spare, you likely wouldn't need to spend so many hours trying to get an Orb of Chance to create a unique in the first place. However, when you're far into the endgame, you'll start to get more and more uniques, and disenchanting them to earn Chance Shards is a reliable way to passively work your way towards an Orb of Chance.

You can disenchant all items by visiting specific vendors in the hub towns of all three acts in Path of Exile 2. Here are the three NPCs that will disenchant items for you:

* Una at Clearfell Encampment
* Zarka at Ardura Caravan
* Servi at Ziggurat Encampment

The vendors can also disenchant magic and rare items for you. Disenchanting a magic item earns you a Transmutation Shard while disenchanting a rare item rewards you with a Regal Shard.

Trade for an Orb of Chance

The final way to get yourself an Orb of Chance in Path of Exile 2 is to trade for it. There are two trading methods you can use: directly trading with other players or using the Currency Exchange.

Let's start with trading with other players. This is fairly straightforward, as all you have to do is type in your server chat that you're looking to swap some items for an Orb of Chance. You can also use Path of Exile 2's official Trade Website.

On the Trade Website, you can search for what you're looking for and the quantity you want in addition to other filters. For the Orb of Chance, though, you just need to search for the item and the quantity. When you're done, you can search and see what players are trading on the market. When you find a trade you want to do, message the player selling the orb to meet up with them in-game. Naturally, other players willing to part with the orb will likely want some high-tier items in exchange, so be ready to part with some valuable loot.

In addition to trading with players, you can also trade using the Currency Exchange. The Currency Exchange is only unlocked after beating Path of Exile 2 on Normal difficulty and can be accessed by visiting any Gambling Vendor. At the exchange, you can search for the currency item you want to buy and what you're willing to give up. After you've inputted your items, the exchange tells you how much the item you want to buy costs.

The price of items on the Currency Exchange fluctuates every day, as it's based on supply and demand. However, the usual going rate for a single Orb of Chance is:

* 50-60 Regal Orbs
* 5-15 Exalted Orbs
* 4-5 Chaos Orbs

Exalted Orbs are what players usually trade for an Orb of Chance, but it's up to you what you want to give up.
